Welcome back to a new school year!
On behalf of ALTA, I want to wish all of our teachers a positive and successful start to the year. I hope the summer provided an opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend time doing the things that matter most to you.
Yesterday was also New Teacher Orientation, where we had the pleasure of welcoming 10 new teachers or new to position teachers to our local. It was great to meet our newest colleagues, introduce them to ALTA, and let them know that they are joining a strong and supportive community of educators. To each of our new members: welcome! We’re very glad to have you with us.
As we begin another year together, I want to acknowledge the professionalism, dedication, and care that our members bring to their classrooms, schools, students, and one another every day. ALTA is here to support you, advocate for you, and ensure that our collective voice remains strong.
Our first ALTA meeting of the year will be Wednesday, September 9 at 4:15 p.m. at Nakusp Secondary School. I encourage everyone who is able to attend to join us as we get the year underway. It will be a great opportunity to reconnect, discuss the year ahead, and continue building a strong and engaged local.
I’m looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces, getting to know our new members, and working together throughout the year ahead.

- Fall Zone Meeting in Nelson – This two-day event will be held across the province from Friday, October 2, 2026, to Saturday, October 3, 2026.
- October PSA DAY – October 23, 2026
